*      April 26 2014        Professor Jun Long from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) has successfully finished one-year exchange research and teaching activities in ICL as a visiting professor sponsored by China Scholarhip Council (CSC) program. Professor Long has actively involed in the research projects and several papers are in progress. Long term collabrorations between two teams have been estabilished. *      March 16-20 2014 Professor Guo, visiting Professor Jun Long and five Ph.D. students Xingru Yan, Qingliang He, Bin Qiu, Jiang Guo, and Huige Wei attended the ACS National Meeting & Exposition in Dallas Texas and gave seven presetations including two invited talks “Electrospun Carbon Nanocomposite Fibers for GMR Sesors” and “Carbon Fabric Treated with Polyaniline for Hexavalent Chromium Removal.

*      February 25 2014  Professor Guo gave an invited talk “Highly Conductive Polyolefin Nanocomposites: Role of The Mixed Solid Nanofillers.” in the SPE International Polyolefins Conference. *      January 10 2014   The paper “Electrospun polyacrylonitrile nanocomposite fibers reinforced with Fe3O4 nanoparticles: Fabrication and property analysis” has been selected for the most cited articles published since 2009.

*      December 28 2013    The paper “Mesoporous Magnetic Carbon Nanocomposite Fabrics towards Highly Efficient Cr(VI) Removal” has been accepted for publicaiton in ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology.

*      December 12 2013    The paper “Magnetoresistive conductive polymer-tungsten trioxide nanocomposites with ultrahigh sensitivity at low magnetic field” has been accepted for publicaiton in Polymer.

*      October 31 2013   The research project entitled “Multifunctional Desulfurization Elastomeric Polymer Nanocomposites” was funded for $100,000.00 for the period of 09/01/2014-08/31/2016, with Prof. Suying Wei from Chemistry Department at Lamar University as co-PI by ACS Petroleum Research Fund (PRF) under New Directions program. *      June 28 2013        Dr. Jiahua Zhu has been interviwed by several Universities of USA and Canada for tenure-track faculty positions, Professors from MIT, Harvard, etc for postdoctoral associate and National Labs for research scientist.  Dr. Zhu has decided to accept the offer as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at University of Akron. Congratulations!

*      June 26 2013        To serve the scientific community, Prof. Guo has accepted the inviation to be editorial board member of journal of Chemical Engineering and Process Techniques and Journal of Frontiers in Chemistry and Environmental Science.

*      June 20 2013        Professor Guo was invited to give lecture “New functions of polyolefin grafted with maleic anhydride for manipulated magnetic nanostructures” in the conference of Particles 2013.

*      June 20 – June 3 2013       Professor Guo visited Harbin Institute of Technology, Shandong University, and Chongqing University of Technology. Potential collaborations have been discussed.

*      April 29 – May 3 2013        Professor Guo and two doctoral students (Xingru Yan and Xi Zhang) attended the TA Instruments TGA, DSC, MDSC, DMA & Rheology Theory & Applications Training Courses. Through these one-week extensive studies, the functions of the instruments have been educated in details. Meanwhile, Dr. Guo has communicated with other peers from univeristies and industries for potential collaborations. TA staffs have done a great job in teaching, trouble-shootings and demonstrations!

*      December 19 2012 Prof. Guo was invited to give an invited talk regarding “Tackling corrosion with nanotechnology” in the coming CORROSION 2013 hosted by National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) International – the Corrosion Society in the session of “TEG 474X - Nanotechnology in Corrosion” to be held in March 18 2013.

*      December 6 – 13 2012 Prof. Guo gave a 3-hour lecture in the “National Polymer Processing Workshop” hosted in South China University of Technology by Prof. Xiangfang Peng and Prof. Jinping Qu. There are 80 students from 28 Universities from all over China. During this visit, Prof. Guo has given invited seminars in Guangdong Industry Technical College, South China University of Technology, Guangdong University of Technology, and Beijing Forestry University. *      May 1 2012 Professor Stephen Z. D. Cheng (Robert C. Musson Trustees Professor, Dean of College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering, Senior Editor of Polymer, University of Akron) gave an invited seminar titled “Giant Molecules based on Nanoatoms: Size Amphilification, Function Diversification, and SelfAssembly Manipulation” to the faculty members and graduate students in Lamar University. During the visit, Prof. Cheng has met Vice president Dr. Doblin, Dean of College Engineering Dr. Hopper, Chair of Chemical Engineering Department Dr. Ho, Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry Department Dr. Bernazzani and other faculty members.  Prof. Cheng also had lunch with some faculty members and Ph.D. students, and had given great advices on the young generation education, which is highly helpful to our Ph.D. students. *      November 29 - December 3, 2010 Prof. Guo attended MRS Fall Meeting in Boston MA and gave a talk regarding “Magnetic Polypropylene Nanocomposites Filled with In-situ Synthesized Magnetic Nanoparticles” in the Symposium of “Polymer-Based Nanocomposites” on December 1.

*      Novermber 11 2010 Ph.D. Student Jiahua was seltected to receive a Student Participation Grant from the 2011 NSF-CMMI Research and Innovation Conference, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, January 4 -7, 2011. The grant includes “conference registration and social fees and shared-room lodging.” Congratulations and thanks for the support.

*      November 6-11 2010 Prof. Guo attended AIChE annual conference in Salt Lake City UT. Moreover, three talks were given by Prof. Guo. Ph.D. Student Jiahua also gave an oral talk and one poster presentation. In addition, Prof. Guo was selected to be the Chair of the Composite Division of AIChE for 2010-2011 to serve the community.

*      August 27 2010 Our ICL group is awarded a NSF Research Grant for our research proposal entitled “Synergistic Conductive Multifunctional Polymer Nanocomposites with Soft and Hard NanoFillers.” (CMMI-1030755, 01/15/2011-12/31/2013, $300,000, with Prof. Suying Wei from Chemistry Department at Lamar University as co-PI). Meanwhile, we received additional $12,000.00 for REU supplemental support for two undergraduate students. Congratulations and Thanks for the Support!

National Textile Engineering Pupil Congress (more than 600 audience), 6-9 May 2010 and an tutorial talk for the conference titled “New Conceptes on Textile Technolgoy” at Gaziantep University.

*      April 17 2010  As a service to the society and community, Prof. Guo served as a volunteer judge (reviewed 22 projects from different Countries) for the Senior Environment in the International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering, & Environment) Project Olympiad 2010.
